Lee Kheng Teck has arrived in Camp1 Polour Hut safely, he is doing a medical check now and he is going to have an interview with a local news agency afterward.

Tehran local time 4:15 PM
Rescue operation started this morning by the rescue helicopter and Iranian rescue teams. We are glad to inform that the young Malaysian mountaineer Lee Kheng Teck is seen alive and safe by a local shepherd on the Easter ridge of Mt Damavand Iran. The attempt to carry him down is under operation (may be by horse and mule).

Urgent help is needed to find and rescue a young Malaysian climber

Malaysian Climber is Missing on Mt Damavand Iran
Latest Breaking News Mt Damawand , 6 August 2013
A Malaysian climber was lost on Damawand Volcano yesterday. The missing climber is called Mr. Lee Kheng Teck.

While ascending he was last seen by his friends on Monday August 5th at about 5 PM Tehran local time at the altitude above 5400 meters high in the sulfuric hills, a part of the volcano just bellow the crater, approx less that one hour to the top. This part of the mountain is also called the Danger Zone.

Lee was  the member of a Malaysian expedition team with 11 young climbers. Ten of them left the high camp, Camp 3 Bargah Sevom on the southern ridge, at 9:30 for acclimatization. After reaching the acclimatization target, 3 members decided to return back to the C3 and returend back safely. But the others decided to continue to Damavand peak.

The summit team was divided in two groups. First group contained 3 fast climbers reached the summit after about 5 hours and the second team also included 3 participants reached the top after about 6 hour. While descending they all saw their slow tired friend called Lee near the peak but non of them remained in the area to help him!

We are closely following up the news of this Malaysian mountaineer who went missing on Damawand yesterday. A member of this expedition said that two rescue efforts to find the missing climber have so far failed, search is going on by local mountaineers. Up to now (6th August, Tuesday night), there has been no report for rescue helicopter in the area in coordination with Iran Mountaineering & Sport Climbing Federation.

The Mount Damavand Guide team is looking forward to see helicopter flights and more efforts to locate and rescue this missing Malaysian climbers alive soon.

Weather
There has been a good weather for climbing in the area in the last few day, other than some strong wing on the mountain, there has been no report of any severe weather, bad conditions, heavy fog or low visibility during the incident day. Damavand weather reports indicate that good conditions will continue over the mountain for the next few days, making the search and rescue efforts possible.

Possibility
There is the possibility that after successfully conquering the summit, he had run out of energy and he had strayed toward the other routes of the mountain during his descend.

Economy Outlook in Iran
Removal of Subsidies and Uncertain Economic Situation in Iran

As the international sanctions against Iran being widely imposed and the decision by the government to remove subsidies on many goods such as petroleum products, electricity, water, wheat, milk, rice etc, we are expecting a huge price raise and high inflation rate for the next few months.

The removal of subsidies will cause a great raise in all prices in iran, this will effect most costs for travel and tourism too, including for Mt Damavand climbs and caltural tours in Iranian cities.

Already the government has raised 30% increase for the domestic airline tickets this week and it is expected to announced further new increase to the internal tickets due to annual inflation rate which usually takes effect every year on 21 March (Iranian New Year).

It's not immediately clear how high this new inflation will go, but it may take effect from October 2010 to March 2011.

So kindly be advised due to this uncertain economic situation here, we may not be able to offer you precise costs and prices for some travel services at the moment.

80 years old mountaineer on Mt Damavand Summit
17 August 2010, Mashaalla Razmi, 80 years old Iranian mountaineer managed to climb to Mt Damavand peak in a three days battle. He was so happy at the top and he took off his shirt like football players doing so after scoring a vital goal! But there was no referee there to show him a yellow card!
Born in 1930, Razimi is one the oldest mountaineers in Iran to succeed Mt Damavand 5671 m the Middel East highest peak.

Important Tourism news, Notes and Tips

Due to international sanctions against Iran and possibility of even more boycotting of Iranian banks, goods and the source of incomes, when traveling to Iran please remember the following important tourism notes and tips:

1- Bring enough money in cash.

2- It is not possible to use ATM system in Iran and you can't get money out of the bank using electronic funds transfer at point of sale (eftpos).

3- You must pay cash to buy goods and you can not use your credit card, only few carpet shops will accept credit cards and they'll charge you more.

4- When transferring any money such as your deposit, to your Iranian business partner bank account, do not mention the name of Iran, you may just mention another term such as Mt Damavand Tour, otherwise the transferd amount will be blocked by the banks.

5- You may change money upon arrival at IKA International Airport, the rate is quite fare, there is not a major difference between exchange rates in bank and free market money exchange shops.

6- There is no problem for changing US$ or Euros in Iran, money exchange shops are available in most cities and hotels.

Mt Damavand is a popular tourism attraction in summer, climbing season generaly starts early June, to be more precise it starts on 3rd June due to a major 2 days public holiday plus a long weekend in Iran. In order to meet the least crowd problem, it is recommended to keep away form this mountain from 3 to 5 June 2010, because all the camps are crowded and there are big traffic jams on the Haraz road leading to the area.

Latest News for the south route 29 May 2010:
I climbed to the Damavand summit on 26 May 2010 and I would like to share the latest news with you.
- The south route graval road ia accessible by cars and 4WD cars can go to Camp2 Base (Goosfan Sara 3050m) and you may start your teck from that point.
- Climbing permit fee for foreign climber is 50 USD per person, no change by mountaineering federation of iran in 2010 yet.
- Most footpaths have poped-up from ice and snow, crampon and ice-axe are not necessary any more.
- Due to low temp and strong wind, the condition is though yet.
- This year there is more sulfuric gases near the crater, keep away from these smoke as far as you can !?
- Remember, for any successful climb you should be well equipped and you need a good weather.
- A little snow left on Damavand for ski, at the moment ski is possible from Camp3 Bargah to the top, you may consider june as the end of ski season for the area.

Avalanche, 4 Feb 2010
Avalanche killed at least 8 and injured 2 in Iran.
Three powerful avalanches hit the road between Shemshak and Dizin Ski Resorts on Thursday 4 Feb 2010 at 14:30, burying may mountain climbers and skiers under the snow.The area is in a high avalanche zone and there has been heavy snowfall in the area since Wednesday.

The rescue operation started by 10 teams from near by cities immediately after the accident and with a long operation they have saved 50 pepole so far and found the bodies of the eight, some other are still reported missing, seven of the victims were climbers and the member of Damavand Mountaineering Club.

Three foreign nationals skiers were among the rescued, but there is no info about their names and nationalities yet. Injured were treated at a nearby hospital and the rest were given shelter in a Dizin and Shemshak hotels.

The road between Dizin and Shemshak connects the two popular ski resorts in Alborz Mountains about 70 kilometres north of Tehran, Iran.

Unfortunately, Farshad Khalili, a geart Iranian mountain climber and ski coach is among the victims. Our condolences to his family and Iranian Mountain Climbing Society.

سقوط بهمن در جاده شمشك - دیزین
چهارشنبه 14 بهمن 1388
در حادثه ریزش بهمن در ارتفاعات شمشك - دیزین تعدادی از کوهنوردان و اسکی بازان که برخی عضو کلوپ کوهنوردی و اسکی دماوند بودند كشته و مجروح شدند.

متاسفانه با خبر شدیم فرشاد خلیلی از بزرگان جامعه کوهنوردی و مربیان اسکی و پيشكسوت كوهنوردي ايران براي نجات شاگرد خود به دام بهمن افتاد و جان خودرا ازدست داد. به خانواده محترم ایشان و جامعه کوهنوردی ایران تسلیت عرض میکنیم. روحشان شاد و یادشان گرامی.

Heavy Snow Fall - End of Summer season 19 Sep 2009
There has been heavy snow fall in Mt Damavand area this week, meaning that summer climbing season is ended, ordinary climbers are strongly advised not attemp climbing till a better condition in next summer. It could be a good news for Mt Damavand ski mountaineers.

Crowd Peak 6 Aug 2009
Mt Damavand is a major tourist attraction in summer and reaches its crowd peak in 6 August each year, because of its easy accessibility from Tehran, south route is the most popular face of the mountain, there is no clear estimation that how many climbers ascend in this month, in order to encounter a small crowds problem, it is recommended that you bring your own tent in August because all shelters and huts are full of climbers or book a place in huts in advance.

Sad News 1 June 2009
Unfortunately because of bad weather in Mt Damavand last week, 3 climbers from Bandar Abas, Iran lost their lives , This group with 11 members climbed from south route, due to bad weather at altitude of about 5000 meters 7 climbers returned back to Bargah Sevom Camp and 4 of them continued their ascend to the summit, but in return they could not find the correct way back to the Camp3 and they lost the way in the dead zone of Mt Damavand, they ended to west route, which caused them 3 death.

Warning for climbing Mt Damavand in spring climate
Spring 2009 May and early June - 15 May 2009
Due to heavy spring snow fall in the mountain in spring 2009, most parts of the routes are covered by snow and ice and climbing to the summit is very difficult in May and early June.
So for a safe and successful climb in this season:
- You should be very experinced climber.
- well equipped with winter gears.
- crampon and ice axe are necessary.
- you need a good weather.
- well supported .
- ready for any risky and unexpected condition in Mt Damavand.

Heavy Snow Fall 13 April 2009
The snow fall around Damavand and Lasem is continued this week. Good for Mt Damavand ski mountaineers , but it may delay the climbing season for ordinary clmbers.

Snow Conditions 6 April 2009
A good news for Damavand ski mountaineers ,there was a rather good snow fall around Mt Damavand this week.

Permit Fee in 2009 - 1 April 2009
Permit fee for foreign climbers is still 50 USD per person and there has been no reduction in the price.

Snow Conditions 15 March 2009
There has been little snow fall this year around Mt Damavand and Lasem so far compared with the last year , so if you intend to ski mt Damavand , keep in mind that you may face little snow.
